Kenia Uribe

I am an artist and photographer, with an AAS degree in photography. I am focused on creating mixed media art; my pieces are made by combining sketches that I’ve drawn and photographs I’ve taken.

I mainly use pencils and graphite to create my sketches, but on some pieces I use water color as well as ink and markers. My photographs are taken mainly in digital format, and occasionally in film format.

A mixed media piece can take anywhere from three days to two weeks to complete, depending on if I have a plan, concept, and the materials to create and edit with.

Please use the ‘contact’ form if interested in commissions or purchasing artwork. Thank you.

Artist Statement

Through mixed media I’ve found an art and style that allow to me show a world I often see and lose myself in when thinking, as well as a bit of who I am. The specific mixed media that I create deals with the combining of photographs I’ve taken and sketches I’ve done into one piece. Originally they started as black and white, due to me sketching in graphite the majority of the time. However, as I gained more experience and explored more, I began to experiment more with color, and some pieces became very vibrant and strong.

Most pieces are inspired by thoughts I have or song lyrics that stick with me, as well as exploring a lot of life instances and experiences one might have. Within each concept I’m attempting to understand life and the world. I do my best to make sure a piece represents the emotion or concept I’m going for, from sketching the main subject to choosing the right photograph with the best texture. Often times I step back to write notes, for future revisits, and to be able to leave hints of the original story in the letters or poems I place with the finished work. Primarily, I try to leave it to the viewer to fill in their perspective and help create the story or it’s missing pieces. If a single viewer relates to my work or even finds hidden beauty within the melancholy, I would consider it successful. I wish to continue to try and connect this world and someone else’s, if only for a second.
